What Is the EMS Standard of Care?

The EMS standard of care is the level of care that a reasonably prudent EMS provider with similar training and experience would provide under the same or similar circumstances.

Evaluating that standard often requires reviewing:

  • EMS  patient care reports (PCR/ePCR)
  • Dispatch records and CAD logs
  • Audio  recordings
  • Body-worn and dash camera footage
  • Agency policies and standard operating procedures
  • State & Department EMS protocols
  • Training records
  • Quality assurance documentation
  • Applicable national guidelines and standards
